Computing
Computing Statement of Intent
At Sheringdale computing is a fun, interactive and motivating learning experience where we aim to prepare all children for an increasingly technological world. We have a wide range of exciting equipment and resources to develop all pupils’ ability and confidence in using computers and everyday technology to communicate and handle information, control and monitor events, and problem-solve. Through our top-of-the-range computer suite, class sets of iPads, numerous robots and additional digital equipment, children of all abilities are able to develop essential life skills, both working independently and collaboratively with peers.
Computing is taught in both discrete sessions and within other subjects across the curriculum, with key skills revisited and built upon across the school. Skills are progressive across the year groups from nursery to year 6, and teaching provides a balance of Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy as three main strands. STEM learning is woven into the curriculum and regular STEM activities are designed to excite, inspire and enhance the children’s use of computing when problem solving.
E-safety plays a fundamental role in how we deliver the computing curriculum and we strive for all children to use technology safely, both in school and at home. This is done through computing lessons, PHSE lessons, communication with families and is emphasised through assemblies and workshops during the academic year.
