Curriculum statement

Sheringdale is committed to providing a broad and inspiring creative curriculum across all subjects.  Low-threshold, high ceiling tasks enable children to make connections within and across their learning, as well as fostering resilience and a ‘can do’ attitude. The teaching and promotion of oracy is used effectively to support children in learning to communicate their ideas fluently, including giving feedback and reflection, and developing the ability to reason.  Across all subjects, mistakes are regarded as learning opportunities, and through discussion with adults and peers, children set their own goals and targets.  These skills are vital for pupils to engage fully with a curriculum designed to challenge and excite.

The curriculum will be taught with the consideration of the needs of all learners. Some subject areas are taught by specialists, ensuring the best provision, and a topic-led approach in all year groups encourages pupils to delve deeper into exploring and understanding their learning.

Our curriculum intent is to nurture a passion for learning in every child, ensuring they fulfil their individual potential and preparing each for their future.

Across all subjects, we employ the acronym WALT (We Are Learning To:) to explicitly highlight to students what they are being asked to do and ensure motivation through clarity of understanding what they are learning.

If you wish to find out more about our curriculum, please contact Mr Rickner (Deputy Headteacher).
